Arrondissement (fraction de la commune du Chenit) crée le 1er janvier 1876 (Arrêté du 1er décembre 1875).
Fusionne par l'arrêté du 18 mai 1942 avec l'arrondissement du Brassus, pour former l'arrondissement du Chenit dès le 1er juin 1942 puis,
par l'arrêté du 5 mai 2004, avec l'arrondissement de l'Abbaye pour former l'arrondissement de La Vallée dès le 1er juin 2004,
supprimé en 2006 et rattaché à l'office d'état civil du Centre et Nord vaudois en 2006.
